These devices utter a noise that humans can't hear, but canines can and that can be quite unpleasant to the pet. These range from collars you can put on your pet to devices that can be mounted on poles to deter a neighbors pet from whining.
Another option is the use of electronic shock collars. These can be very effective, but are not humane, as it will give an electric shock to your pet.
The last option you can incorporate to help stop dog whining will take the longest, but is the most time tested. It involves the owner consistently telling the canine to stop whining every time the dog begins to whine. This requires the owner to be available most of the time. There are other options you can use to help stop dog whining, but these are the most popular methods.
Sound Devices
Electronic sound devices may seem inhumane, but actually, they don't hurt the dog, instead they give off a sound that is displeasing to dogs. Suppose you were to hear a penetrating high pitched noise every time you ate something you weren't suppose to like cookies. Eventually you would stop eating those cookies because you wouldn't want to hear that noise anymore. This is the basic idea behind electronic sound devices. If you don't like the thought of irritation your pet every time they whine, there are other methods you can consider to help stop dog whining.
Shock Collars
Dogs who are forced to wear shock collars can suffer from physical and mental pain. This can range from simple burns to cardiac twitching. This negative reinforcement can cause psychological stress, anxiety and eventually cause animal aggression. A shock that seems mild to one dog could be serious to another. The physical and mental stress caused by reoccuring shocks can lead to an assortment of heart and respiratory problems. You also have to worry about the collar malfunctioning, either giving your pet a nonstop shock or not getting shocked at all. While this is an alternative method that could be used for extreme cases, I believe that using positive reinforcement training, like rewarding your pet for good behavior, is much more genial and more efficient.
Uniform Training
Another means to stop dog whining is to be around whenever your pet starts to whine. When your dog begins to whine, cause a loud noise by slapping the newspaper on the table, snapping your belt or by say to your pet affirmatively, no! What ever method you choose, you must be uniform in the training. Every time they whine you must use the same method so they can associate that noise with whining, that way they will learn to stop this bad behavior more quickly. Canines ears are very tender, which is the reason why sound devices work so advantageously and why snapping your belt or slapping the newspaper on the table will warn them to stop dog whining immediately. Stay persistent and soon enough your pet will learn to stop dog whining, and you and your family will have the peace and quiet you most urgently need.
